Review: Nikki Montana – The 11th Hour
Silverback Gang‘s first lady gave followers and yet to be fans an earful with her latest offering The 11th Hour. Fresh art-works for the albums covers come courtesy of N.Z’s own Pest5. Production credits hold recognition with names like Breakin Wreckwordz in-house man Exile & Dmain Event having their creative touches on this project also.
Early 2010 saw Nikki’s E.P drop titled Epiphany which provoked listeners to take note that she was paving inroads for aspiring femcees, Which without bias side-taking favours is a predominantly male run scene. Her rawness stands its ground against the raspiest of counterparts in Aotearoa-rap.
Your greeted with an almost airy yet delicate laden Intro (Little Girl Lost) before being introduced promptly to the business-end with La La La (Cloak & Dagger) featuring Illegal Musik‘s – Tyson Tyler. The consecutive next two tracks (3. & 4.) address Montana’s current overview of her hometown and surroundings while the other is an opinionated self-confession. Both have an intimate feel as though to purposely act like a letter intended for everyone. Momentum doesn’t seem to ease up in (5. & 6.) through to the Interlude with a song depicting the emotions of parenthood with that roles pro’s and cons then almost immediately its backed up with a reminiscent styled poem highlighting memories shes chosen to reflect on through music. The home straight (8., 9. & 10.) has been tailored with a more recognizable theme beginning with a shameless proclaimed banger (She Da Illest [Remix]) featuring SMV. Partnering Villain – Koma of MTC appears on Get It Right, A finger-pointing announcement on how / where the standards are and intern should be upheld – Like so.
