Review: David Dallas – The Rose Tint
The well anticipated release from Duck Down Records new signee went LIVE as a free download on May 11th. Expectations after the hype created from his last effort (Something Awesome) in 09′ which topped the N.Z iTunes chart seemed to be one of easily eclipsing his previous work. Partly based on credentials already paved with a touch of loyal belief and faith in David’s ability to source out the producers that compliment D.Dot’s branded style so harmoniously.
The production has a definite feel of being meticulously sort after with a sample of The Chemical Brothers making an appearance and also hosting one of Ratatats works made the final cut as well. This seemingly clash of genres has been mapped out swiftly through-out the mix tape to have a playlist that can be put on rotation with no shuffling needed.
Its a bridging sound that will appeal to the mainstream as well as those music ‘connoisseurs’ and their acquired tastes. Boasting features by fellow Aotearoa artists on the line-up just cements the ever-more Kiwi-alistic vibe on things to then have N.Y veteran Buckshot lace a track along with mid-wests gangsta – Freddie Gibbs. In a package its content speaks one of a journey to the Mecca of Hip-Hop in hopes of success with personal tales to illustrate himself as an artist brandishing that unmistakable home-grown accent.
Without doubt this hands down would have to be the ‘freshest’ thing on wax so to speak to be put out in quit some time from our shores. A certain buzz has been brewing since Big Time got aired on superstar Kayne’s blog to now have set up shop in the back yard of ‘make-it-or-break-it-ville’. You’ll be hard pressed to dislike anything The Rose Tint has to offer, Overall it is simply ace!
P.S: The entire track-list makes the bench mark but for opinions-sake these two get the head-noddin’ salute the most.
