You know what behind the music is, the artist gives you a insight into their release. This time around we got in contact with DJ SMV for a Behind The Music on Soul Train’D, Enjoy part one!
Artist: DJ SMV
Title: Soul Train’D
Release Date: November 2011
DJ SMV:
What alot of people dont know about me is prior to soul traind was that i could rap. I started out rapping when i was in high school on the low low. Im a DJ first tho. Soul traind is an expression of both of these elements combined. I didnt name my album JB did. The original title was gonna be Hip Hop Since 1978. When JB dropped Soul Traind on me i liked it straight away because i grew up in a house full of instruments and records. My dad was a musician too. I started the album in April 2011 and planned to drop it on my birthday in November . The Villains had just got into full swing and i wanted to take care of my crew first and make sure everything was running right before getting into my own project. So Soul Traind was part time while Villains was full on The motivation behind the overall emotion in Soul Traind is due to the fact that my family and i had parted ways and i needed something to channel my energy into.
Track breakdown:
1. Intro
Sample: Willie Hutch - Mothers Theme
When i heard the sample it automatically told me this is how your albums gonna start. So i got a couple bros on there to say a few things about me. The music suits the theme before the next track where i plan to get rough.

2. Suicidal Mic Vendetta
Sample: Rammstein – Du Hast
I knew that if i was gonna call this project an album (even tho it aint on shelf) I had to come out swinging blades. I sampled Rammsteins – Du Hast. I had no idea who Rammstein were. But alot of white people bug out that i sampled that band lol.

3. Before im gone
Break Down Sample: Puerto Rico – Frankie Cutless
No samples (except the break), Just me on logic 9 stock sounds. I remember feeling like yo this is my time. Im not gonna hold back. Ive been in this game before alot a cats that are hot right now so im a get mine! Thats my homie Jordaan Tuitama on the hook. He doesnt like writing lol. 4. Twelve minds of Danger
Is a beat i came up with while diggin in the breaks. I represent hip hop culture so i wanted to do something with a bboy rythym but with a heavy knock. So i added a twisted 808 kick underneath the drums. My man Juse1 kills his verse. I could hear him on this track before even asking him. We filmed a video for this but you will never see it cos i decided not to drop it. I wasnt happy with it.

5. Nothings Changed
Sample: The Whatnauts – Were as friends (Lovers by night)
Is an ode to my peoples who have been apart of my journey over the years. Namely my crew and my hood. Im basically telling you when i represent my crew is right there with me even if im rolling dolo. The 3rd verse is about my girl and my mum. Sending out love without been a chessey guy.

6. Garden of Kings

Just breaking down the soul on here. Orginal song is a favourite of mine.

7. If We Aint Cool
Is that song that needed a video and every DJ in the country to support. But i guess when youre balling on a budget then that shit can only go so far. Everything i say in this joint is exactly how i felt at the time. This one is a favourite at my shows.

8. Killin My Buzz
Sample: Bullet – The Spic
This shits a classic in my city. When N.I and myself perform this mahfuckas know the words and sing along lol Its just a fun song based on facts. Alot of people thought i was on some pimp shit. But if you listen to the lyrics proper then youil know i was just speaking my mind. I dont do pimp raps. The music just sounded pimp thats all.
